Steps

  1. Apply on form E21 (Application in respect of electricity services). Get it at a ZETDC office or download it from ZETDC's application forms page.
  2. Have a qualified electrical contractor wire the building. When the wiring is finished, the contractor signs form E25 (Notification of Completion of Wiring). Hand it in to ask ZETDC to inspect. If the wiring fails, you pay a re-inspection fee. The fee doubles for each further re-test.
  3. Hand in form E22 with a copy of your ID and your proof of ownership or offer letter.
  4. ZETDC gives you a quotation. Accept it and pay at a ZETDC office within three months. If you don't, the quotation expires and you will need a new one. Keep your official receipt.
  5. ZETDC installs your meter. If the power lines already reach your property, ZETDC aims to do this within 21 working days. The count starts once you have paid in full and the materials are available. If new lines are needed, ZETDC gives you a separate timeline.

Good to know

Watch out

Pay ZETDC's connection fees only at a ZETDC office, and keep the official receipt. You pay your own electrical contractor for the wiring. If ZETDC asks you to supply your own prepaid meter, wait until ZETDC has given you a receipt for your connection fee. Then buy the meter only from a supplier on ZETDC's approved list. Never pay anyone who offers to speed up your connection.
