Tick things off as you gather them. Your ticks are saved on this phone only.
Steps
- If someone is in danger, call Call 999 or the police on Call 995. On Econet you can also call Call 112, and on NetOne Call 114.
- If it isn't an emergency, go to the charge office (the front counter) at your nearest police station. Police say someone should attend to you within a minute of you arriving. Say you want to report a crime.
- An officer writes down what happened. Before you leave, ask for your report's reference number, often called an RRB number, and the officer's name. Keep them safe.
- For a scam or fraud, ask for the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the station and hand over your evidence. For rape, sexual abuse or domestic violence, ask for the Victim Friendly Unit. After rape, get to a clinic or hospital within 72 hours. There you can get treatment to prevent HIV and pregnancy.
- Use your reference number to follow up. Under the police service charter, the police aim to finish investigations within 21 days for minor cases, 30 days for moderate cases and 60 days for serious ones.
- If the station won't take your report or doesn't act, ask to see the officer in charge. If that doesn't work, take it to the officer commanding the police district, then to the officer commanding the province. You can also contact the ZRP National Complaints Desk at any time on Call (0242) 703 631, or on WhatsApp at
WhatsApp 0712 800 197.
Good to know
- Emergency numbers don't connect everywhere, so save your local police station's number. Get it from the station itself, because the ZRP's online list dates from 2022.
- Police say urgent calls should be answered within 10 seconds. They also say officers should reach urgent scenes within 10 minutes in towns and 2 hours in rural areas.
- You can complain about police misconduct to the Zimbabwe Independent Complaints Commission, which began work in 2025. It also covers the army, prisons and intelligence service. You can go to any of its offices, wherever the misconduct happened, or email Email complaints@zicc.org.zw. Give your full name and ID number. It must send you a written acknowledgement with a reference number within 7 days.
