Steps
- File all your returns and pay your taxes, or agree payment terms with ZIMRA.
- Check that your contact and bank details on TaRMS are correct. ZIMRA asked every taxpayer to update their records in 2026.
- If you are tax compliant, ZIMRA produces the certificate automatically and emails it to you. You can also get it from the self-service portal.
- Give a copy to whoever needs it, such as a client, a tender board or your council.
Good to know
- Without a certificate, businesses that pay you must withhold tax from the payment.
- You need one to bid for tenders and to get council trading licences. Without one, importers also pay presumptive tax on the goods they bring in.
- From 2026, tax clearance certificates last a shorter time than before, often six months or less. Check the dates printed on yours to see how long it is valid. Stay up to date so that the next one is issued.
