What you'll usually need
Tick things off as you gather them. Your ticks are saved on this phone only.
Steps
- Go to a ZINARA office or an approved agent with your vehicle registration number.
- Choose how long you want the licence for, from 4 to 12 months. You can do the insurance and the ZBC radio licence at the same time.
- Pay, and get your licence disc straight away.
Good to know
- Since 15 July 2025, ZINARA and insurers only renew if you show a ZBC radio licence or a ZBC exemption certificate. But ZINARA's own web page has called the radio licence optional, and the rule has been challenged in court. Ask at the office whether you need it.
- No radio? Get the free ZBC exemption first. Take the vehicle, a copy of the registration book and your ID to a ZBC licensing office. Motorcycles, trailers and tractors are automatically exempt.
- When ZINARA's online self-service portal is working, it takes Visa and Mastercard, and ZiG through Zimswitch. If it won't load, go to a ZINARA office or an approved agent.
- You can find the official fees on ZINARA's licensing page.

Watch out
Bogus agents have sold forged licence discs, and some have been convicted. Renew only at a ZINARA office or an approved agent.
